THEORETICAL STUDY OF ALKALINE CATIONS IN CARBON NANOTUBES

Giannis Mpourmpakis, Emmanuel Tylianakis, Dionisis Papanikolaou and George Froudakis

Abstract

sing both ab-initio and Molecular Mechanic calculations we have investigated the interaction between different types of carbon nanotubes with alkali metal cations. Our results show that the alkaline cation is located on top of a phenyl group of the nanotube, resulting a strong cation-[] interaction. This interaction is not affected by the type or the curvature of the nanotube.
