In 1960 he is graduated from Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics (St.Petersburg) by speciality "Automatics and Telemechanics" with the diploma of engineer-electromechanic.

After graduating from this institute he worked in Central Scientifical Research Institute named after Krylov.

Since 1962 till 1965 he received post-graduation study at Leningrad Branch of Steklov Mathematical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences under the supervision of academician Yu.V.Linnik. His PhD was devoted to "Investigation on the theory of Markov processes connected with the problem of searching for a maximum".

Since 1965 till 1986 he worked in this institute in Laboratory of Statistical Methods. His D of Sc thesis was defended in 1984 and was devoted to "Continuous semi-Markov processes".

Since 1986 till 1988 he worked at Institute of Geology and Geochronology of Precembrian of the USSR Academy of Sciences at Laboratory of Mathematical Geology.

Since 1988 till now he is at the Institute of Problems of Mechanical Engineering where he helds the position of the head of Laboratory of Reliability Analysis Methods.

B.P.Harlamov is the author of about 70 scintific works including 2 inventions. The field of his interests includes the probability theory, mathematical statistics, and their applications. The most of his publications is devoted to investigation of random processes: Markov, branching, semi-Markov, and application them to modelling of natural phenomena, especially that of continuous semi-Markov processes which he was the first to investigate, and due to which he became known abroad.
