XXIV Summer School

Nonlinear Oscillations - 96

July 1 -- July 10, 1996

First Announcement and
Call for Papers

The Summer school will be organized by Institute of the Problems of Mechanical Engineering,Russian Academy of Sciences. "Nonlinear oscillations - 96" (Applied Mathematics and Mechanics) is the twenty-four in a series of annual summer schools on application of mathematics to nonlinear oscillations problems. The school is supported by EMS. The purpose of the school is to attract the attention of researchers (especially young) to recent results in application of mathematics to nonlinear oscillations problems. The lectures will be given by well known scientists. Each young researcher will give a special certificate at the end of the school.

Summer school is a meeting with a limited number of participants (not more than 60).

Scientific programme

The scientific programme focuses on seven main topics:

  • - Solid mechanics (nonlinear oscillations,chaos, stability and control, multibody systems and
  • - Fluid and gas mechanics including turbulence;
  • - Mechanical engineering;
  • - Computational mechanics;
  • - Numerical analysis (finite elements, boundary elements and wavelets);
  • - Wave motion and acoustics;
  • - Elasticity, damage and fracture.

    Each topic is assigned a special session consisting of two invited lectures and three contributed lectures.The working languages for the shcool are English and Russian.

    Zelenogorsk is a satellite of St.-Petersburg with a population of about 40.000. It is located on the cost of the Gulf of Finland, 50 km from the city. Zelenogorsk can be reached by train, or by bus, only 40 minutes away. In June and July you will experience the magnificent summer nights when it is never really dark and the days are only separated by a couple of hours of twilight.

    During June and July in Zelenogorsk, you can expect typical coastal summer weather. The temperature may vary between 15-25 degrees C. Rainy days may occur.

    The summer school will be held in the hotel "Leningradets" from 1 July to 10 July 1996. The official opening will take place on the morning of 1 July in the Conference Hall.
