Information letter from the Organizing Committee

Dear colleagues,

we are very grateful to those who have submitted an abstract to APM 2002. This year we received more than 250 papers. This is a record number of papers for the School. It is almost twice more than the last year.

The papers now are being considered by the Scientific Committee of the School. Because of a large number of submitted abstracts we will not be able to accommodate all the submitted papers on the program. Perhaps we will have to reject some papers of a good scientific quality, but on specific subject. In any case, even without presenting your paper, you are welcome to take part in the conference.

Many of those who asked for an oral presentation will have to present their papers at the poster session. However, we would like to emphasize that we do not consider poster presentations to be worse in the scientific sense than oral ones. On the contrary, poster session gives a possibility for a good discussion, which is one of the goals of the conference. The time for an oral presentation at the usual session is short (15 minutes + 5 minutes for questions), so the poster can be a better solution to present your work in details.

The decision will be taken by the Scientific Committee at the beginning of March. At that time we will ask presenting authors to confirm their attendance. The confirmation is of great importance this year because of the large number of submissions: if you already know that you will not be able to attend, please tell us at once in fairness to the many who can attend and would like to present their work.

On behalf of the organizers of APM 2002, we wish to thank you again for the attention to our conference. We shall be very glad to meet you in St. Petersburg.

Sincerely yours,

Elena Ivanova
Scientific Secretary of APM 2002

Anton Krivtsov
Chairman of the Organizing Committee of APM 2002

Proceedings

After the conference a bound volume of proceedings will be published. The papers for the proceedings (8 pages for a short communication or for a poster, 12 pages for a minisymposium presentation, 15 pages for an invited lecture) must be sent in both electronic form (LaTeX) via e-mail and a camera ready form (A4, all margins are 2.5 cm, 12 pt, article). Numbers of pages must NOT be typed and should be slightly written by a pencil on the BACK side of each page together with the name of a speaker (e.g. 1 Poincaré, ..., 8 Poincaré). You may insert figures in encapsulated PostScript format in your text. Please use this sample for preparation of your paper. Two hardcopies are required.

Deadline for the paper submission: June 27, 2002.
